'Imaginary folk music' from all directions, carefully internalized and served as part of an already existing ancient tradition. Širom from Slovenia with bandmembers Iztok Koren, Samo Kutin and Ana Kravanja, three very creative multi-instrumentalists originated from a Slovenian village called Lesno Brdo. Often, the music of Širom is typed as Slovenian folk music. But if you ask them, there is not much Slovenian about it.
In theory, that manifests itself into a range of instruments. Among others, the rebab, a Morrocan string instrument; the ghaychak, a lute-like instrument from Iran; the balafon, a West-African percussion instrument; the medieval European hurdy-gurdy, but also a roll of tape.
