In order to change 1/100 to decimal form we need to divide 1 by 100. We know that since 1 is smaller than 100 we are going to end up with a number less than 1.
We can divide 1/100 with a calculator or do it longhand. In this video I did the division longhand (but checked my answer with a calculator). When we divide 1 by 100, we get 0.01.
So: 1/100 = 0.01
0.01 is less than 1 so that is a good way to check if our answer is reasonable. You could also multiply your answer by the denominator and you should get the numerator. In this case 0.01 x 100 = 1.
Note that 1/100 and 0.01 represent the same quantity, they are just written in different formats. 1/100 is a fraction and 0.01 is in decimal form.
