STORYLINE:
As the 23rd anniversary of the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran approaches, the nation's leaders issued strong warnings to anyone who would attack the country.
Iranian politicians and citizens reacted angrily to US President Bush's recent state of the union address, in which he referred to Iran as a member of an "axis of evil", along with Iraq and North Korea.
Iran's President Mohammad Khatami called the US a war mongering state, while the defence minister Ali Shamkhani said if anybody attacks Iran, the response will be unimaginable.
The recent tensions with Washington have strengthened the position of the conservatives in Iran, who oppose efforts by reformers to improve ties with Washington.
Hard liners are calling for massive demonstrations in support of the Islamic republic on Monday's anniversary of the revolution.
