4 days in the wild. Extremely minimal gear this time. Out with my second most favorite bag, a bit small but swallows more than you think. It actually surprises me every time. But just the bare essentials. Basically a ground pad, a sleeping bag and way too little food. No extras. What makes me do it this way is the freedom a light bag gives. It opens your eyes for the surroundings. Makes me record more with the camera than if you bite down hard, stare at the ground and struggle on with a heavy load on your back. We are not talking lightweight hiking of course since I haul a hatchet and a big steak lol. But no extra clothes etc. A bit risky but the fire makes it possible.
Foot still hurts but I noticed it doesn't get any better with rest. The opposite actually. And Im glad I didn't go with 25kg this time and as I write this... like a week after this trip my foot gets better little by little everyday. But omg this type of injury takes time to heal.
Tried the star fire lay. Or indian fire not sure what is the right word for it. The pictures I've seen is either 5 logs or 3. So I played with the idea to call my version the Cross Fire Lay. Pretty practical if one would cook for a day or two ;). But did not give out much heat for your body. So at bedtime I built a pile of wood in the center that gave me that nice heat up for getting in the sleeping bag.
Cold first night but warmer weather second day. Second night it started to rain and luckily I slept in a stationary shelter. Did not record anything there. Fourth day colder weather again and reached the pickup point at the other side of that lake late in the evening.
I love snow and ice. Always the most fun but also challenging to record with the camera. Still not quite used to my new camera. The old one I could work with in my sleep but still not nailing the right exposure for the scenes with the new one perfectly like Im used to. The GH6 lets me shoot darker but other than that its almost like I feel the GH5 was better. Go figure. It records the audio better though and that saves a lot of time post edit.
Thank you for watching!
And Merry X-mas!
