The Indian Army and Air Force will deploy MQ-9B Predator drones at two air bases to enhance surveillance along the Line of Actual Control with China. Each branch will have eight of these long-endurance drones, covering most areas of interest along the LAC. The US will sell the drones to India for approximately USD 4 billion, including technology transfer. These drones have a flight time of over 36 hours and can operate at heights above 40,000 feet. They can be armed with air-to-ground missiles and smart bombs, mainly used for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions. The deployment of these drones will greatly improve India's unmanned surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities in the Indian Ocean Region and along its borders with China and Pakistan. MQ-9B drones have successfully monitored anti-piracy operations, providing valuable insights from a distance of 3,000 km from Indian shores.
