The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) have established priorities that are meant to guide the development of local curricula to help teachers center their instruction around a smaller number of conceptually larger ideas and transferable processes. The CCSS focus is to develop learners with the capacity to apply their learning to novel situations without prompting or handholding by teachers. This is what is required to be “college and career” ready!
