In this video I go through why I don't personally use the Vanguard LifeStrategy funds.

The LifeStrategy fund range is a great product. Something investors can take 'off the shelf' and start investing into. There are 5 different funds ranging from 100% stocks to 80% stocks/20% bonds. The LS funds are also low-fee, globally diversified and a great way for people to start investing.

But, after saying all of this, I don't use them. I believe the Cons outweigh the Pros and I prefer to invest using the FTSE Global All Cap instead.

Con 1 - the LS funds are 'funds of funds' and Vanguard have chosen the %'s that these funds make up of each LS funds. This is an active investing decision and as a result gives a 'home bias'...

Con 2 - home bias. The LS funds are overweight UK stocks. For example, the LS100 is 25% UK stocks, whereas the UK only makes up 4% of the global stock market. Other global funds like the All Cap and VWRL are more proportionally weighted.

Con 3 - bonds. This is more of a personal con, but being young I have no intention to invest in bonds. I do think the LS funds are great if you want a stock/bond split, as you simply need 1 fund rather than multiple funds. But as I don't want bonds right now, it makes more sense to use the All Cap rather than the LS100.
