Bear cages show us the cruelty involved in captivity. This example cage is kept open to the public at the LiBearty Bear Sanctuary in Zarnesti, Romania for people to understand the horrific practice of how bears are treated by the captivity industry.
Regardless of why these cages are used (zoos, bile harvesting for traditional medicine, meat, or bear paw soup) most bears will live their lives never even knowing how the ground feels just a few inches below them.
Perhaps our concept of freedom is kept caged as well, we recently stopped the circus for this exact reason, maybe it's time to take a look at all captivity industries.
LiBearty Bear Sanctuary in Zarnesti, Romania is the largest brown bear sanctuary in the world. Currently, there are over 100 brown bears at the sanctuary that are well taken care of and can move freely about 70 hectares of land and forest. Many of the bears have been rescued after spending many years in a cage or being forced to perform at the circus.
