Trump celebrated on Friday the launch of Space Force, the first new U.S. military service in more than 70 years.

"This is a truly historic day for the American armed forces...we're making our military stronger and more powerful than ever before," he said, speaking at Joint Base Andrews before traveling to Florida for the holidays.

The law pledges $738 billion in funding for the military for 2020, and is part of a $1.4 trillion government spending plan.

In signing the 2020 National Defense Authorisation Act that includes Space Force, Trump on Friday can claim a victory for one of his top national security priorities just two days after being impeached by the House.
