Blue Hawk Mine, not far from West Kelowna, is the most easily accessed and safest mine to explore in the Okanagan. It is popular with the Kelowna off-road community, being accessible from the Blue Grouse OHV network of trails.
The mine dates back to the early 1930s and was in operation mining gold and silver for only a single year - 1934.
To make the adventure a human-powered endeavour we decided to hike up from Okanagan Lake. This little known route is scenic but arduous, climbing approximately 500m of elevation over 5km.
