In January 2020, in an Urgent Question about Donald Trump's Middle East Peace 'Plan", Liberal Democrat MP Layla Moran MP warned of an "apartheid system" for Palestinians with Donald Trump's Middle East 'plan'. She quoted the Prime Minister Boris Johnson who warned of an "apartheid system" as Foreign Secretary. In response, then Middle East Minister Dr Andrew Murrison told her to be "a little careful with her language".
Layla Moran said: "This is not a plan. This is a scam. The Minister wonders why those of us with Palestinian family, but also anyone else who believes in the international rules-based order, are suggesting that our Government should reject it. This is an insult. The Palestinians were not consulted during its wide gestation. This is not the best of us. We should reject it outright.
I remind the Minister of our Prime Minister’s words when he was Foreign Secretary:
“What we are saying is that you have to have a two-state solution or else you have a kind of apartheid system. You have to go for a two-state approach, that is the long-standing position of the government”.
This plan is not the basis for a viable two-state solution. Does the Minister therefore accept that these are baby steps, to use his words, towards an apartheid system that we should reject outright?"
