The Main Town Hall in Gdańsk is a Gothic-Renaissance building located at the junction of Długa Street and Długi Targ Street. Its silhouette dominates the panorama of the Royal Route, the most representative route of the historic part of the city.
The origins of the Town Hall date back to the early Middle Ages. It was the seat of the authorities of the most important area of Gdańsk, called the Main Town from the 14th century. From the mid-fifteenth century, the Town Hall became the centre of power for the entire agglomeration near Gdańsk. Unfortunately, the exact date of the construction of the building is unknown. Originally gothic, it was rebuilt in the Renaissance style after a fire in 1556.
During the summer tourist season, visitors can enter the viewing gallery at the top of the tower. After a rather demanding climb, observers can enjoy a magnificent panorama of Gdańsk, from a height of about 50 metres.
