It’s all in the details here, as we’re installing a GYTR gear reduction kit on our YXZ1000R. This kit is essential in a place where you have tight trails, and this is a Yamaha OEM gear reduction kit that fits perfectly into the YXZ1000 drivetrain package.

We’ll start by removing the clutch. There’s a surprise here: it’s a Rekluse clutch, but it doesn’t quite fit right in this unit. Later on, we’ll install a GYTR clutch in this unit, but for now, we’ll dig out this clutch and set it aside.

Then we’re tearing down the transmission on our YXZ1000R. We’ll split the gearcase open and remove the gears. We have a new case half here, so we’ll start the buildup by getting it ready. That will involve getting our bearings in before we start laying the gears into place. Then we’ll remove and replace seals all over the gearcase and get the shift forks and drum in place.

With all of that complete, we’ll install the oil pump, close up the cases, and get the correct torque on the gearcase bolts on our YXZ1000R.
