▬ Norway Railway in full digitalization ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
It all started in 2018, when the Norwegian Railways and Siemens Mobility started working on railway digitalization, and the implementation of ERTMS 2 (European Rail Traffic Management System) on the entire Norwegian rail network by 2034. The Norwegian rail network is the only country in Europe to have planned such a long-term operation.

What does the Digitalization of Norway’s railway network mean? The scope of delivery includes more than 5,000 point machines, over 7,000 axle counters, and more than 10,000 Eurobalises. About 430 railroad crossings will be upgraded. Add to this a 37-year maintenance contract that will take effect when the first stretch of track goes into operation in 2022.

This railway digitalization project in Norway will eventually bring together more than 5,000 people. This will make Norway the heart of #SiemensMobility's research and development in the field of #RailwayDigitalization.

▬ About ETCS and ERTMS technology ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Thanks to its new ETCS (European Train Control System) technology, the signalling system of the Norwegian railway network will be digitalized. ETCS aims to replace more than 20 national railway control and safety systems currently being used in Europe, it is therefore a major asset in the integration of rail transport in Europe. The aim of ETCS across Europe is to enable a more competitive rail transport system. ETCS will allow highly automated transportation and secures operator investments for the future for #BetterTrains and #SaferTrains.
