Learning how to play the Minor 6/9 pentatonic scale is an essential part of playing the guitar and taking your solos to that next level.
Instead of just playing the standard Major pentatonic scale or Major 6/9 scale we can simply flatten the third and then get a Minor 6/9 arpeggio or scale.
Note that the pentatonic scale is both a scale and an arpeggios. It is a five note scale and a five not arpeggio!
The Minor 6/9 Pentatonic Scale in C is as follows:
- C = ROOT (1)
- D = MAJOR NINTH (9th)
- Eb = MINOR THIRD (b3)
- G = PERFECT FIFTH (5)
- A = MAJOR SIXTH (6)
This scale is awesome for Dorian and Melodic minor flavoured modes. And it has a kaleidoscope of colours due to the Sweet 6 and sour b3 working together in tandem. A WORLD TO EXPLORE!!!!
The Relative Minor Scale of the Minor 6/9 (based on C Major 6/9) would be A minor 7b5/11:
- A = ROOT (1)
- C = MINOR THIRD (b3)
- D = ELEVENTH (11th)
- Eb = DIMINSHED FIFTH (b5)
- G = FLATTENED SEVENTH (b7)
This scale is perfect for use over the A minor 7b5 chord. It is equivalent to the C Mnor 6/9 Scale!
