We track down the bison heard on our last day at Badlands. They were located on the Sage room road close to the sage campground. The herd was surrounding the area across from the campground as well as up the hill until you drove out the back entrance of the park. They numbered in hundreds or spread out over wide area and many were moving between multiple areas.
