In a meeting between UNPROFOR and Bosnian Serbs representatives on Friday, it was agreed that Sarajevo airport will be opened today (Saturday) morning.
But the Serbs decided to delay opening of the airport until later today without any explanation.
For the French soldiers who were expecting their flight home for Christmas, the delay meant returning back to their Sarajevo base, disappointed.
UNHCR is desperate for the airport to open as 80% of Sarajevo's basic food comes in through the airport, the stocks will run out at the end of the month unless the airlift resumes.
With the exception of a handful of special flights for senior negotiators the airport, the airport has been closed for three weeks.
Most of the UNPROFOR and UNHCR personnel in Sarajevo have been hoping to get home for Christmas, unless the airport opens in the next few days they will be stuck in Sarajevo.
In anticipation of the opening of the airport, French troops were expecting to go home, only to be told that their flight had been cancelled.
The reloading of the bags began, with the hope that the airport would reopen soon.
