Striped Silver Dollar (Metynnis fasciatus)
Origin: South American Amazon basin
Temperament: Peaceful and are suitable for community aquariums, should always be kept in groups.
Water parameters: Temperature 22-26°C / 72-79°F; pH 5.5 – 7.0
Aquarium setup: Should be kept in a large planted aquarium with lots of swimming space. They may sometimes eat some types aquarium plants.
Feeding: Accepts good quality flake and dry foods.
Black barred Myleus/Barred Silver Dollar (Myleus schomburgkii)
Origin Dist: Brazil, Peru, and Venezuela
Sexual Dimorphism: Mature males develop a twin-lobed anal fin and extensions to the dorsal fin rays. The colour of male fish also intensifies when in breeding condition.
Maximum Size: 40cm (15.8")
Water Conditions: Soft, slightly acidic water is best long-term. pH: 5.5-7.0, dH: up to 12 degrees. Temperature: 23-27 deg C (73-81 deg F) Aquarium setup and Compatibility: large community planted aquarium with lots of swimming spaces and must be kept in groups.
