The brown recluse is arguably the second most well known spider in the United States after the black widow. These small brown spiders have been at the center of many horrific tales involving gigantic necrotic craters of flesh, but are they responsible? In short, no. These spiders, although venomous, lack the quantity of venom to cause such extensive tissue damage and bacteria is the likely culprit in many if not all cases. The brown recluse is only native to the south eastern United States and ranges from Texas to the Carolinas. This species does NOT range further northeast than Ohio, you were not bitten by a brown recluse in upstate New York. The reason for this video is to attack the stigma surrounding these spiders not only for educational purposes, but for public safety. Too long have these spiders become the scapegoats of bacterial infections; this can cause potentially dangerous misidentification circumstances where medical professionals may try and treat bacterial infections like spider bites which can result in organ damage and death. Spiders are not out to bite us, they're not evil creatures. There's no reason to be afraid, we can coexist peacefully with these important members of our planet. Thanks for watching!
