There are roughly 3.9 billion people in our world without access to Internet. Research studies have shown that Internet access can serve as a solution for populations to rise out of poverty. Current efforts to connect populations in rural and remote areas are inhibited by infrastructure costs and other limitations. What technology can we use as a new solution to connect the unconnected? Raichelle Aniceto is a Doctoral Candidate in Space Systems Engineering in the MIT Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics. She completed her Bachelor of Science (2016) and Master of Science (2017) Degrees in Aerospace Engineering at MIT.
She is a member of the MIT Space Telecommunications, Astronomy, and Radiation Laboratory (STAR Lab), led by Dr. Kerri Cahoy. Her research is focused on optical (laser) communications, space radiation, and satellite engineering. Her Ph.D. research on the development of optical communications systems is sponsored by Facebook Connectivity Lab. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at [ Ссылка ]
