In this video I go on a mini rant about UV filters. I personally don't see the point in putting a cheap piece of glass on an expensive lens.

Back in the days of shooting film, a UV filter actually had a purpose, but for shooting digital it seems obsolete. Other than keeping dust off the front of your lens, I don't see any real benefit to using a UV filter and in fact, I think it's completely unnecessary.
