I'm the Boss Today??? WOW!! Montana Wheat Farming 2022

In today's video, Dad has to drive a combine up to Conrad to get repaired and he has put me in charge of wheat harvest on our Montana Farm! Oh no, I hope I can manage and make Dad proud! First Austin is getting the combines fueled and greased. I make sure that the 3 bearings on each side of the combines are greased. I'm overseeing the morning maintenance because we don't want a bearing fire. It takes a few hours to get this done properly. Ivor McGill from McGill Harvesting - the baler guy - stops by to say hello! Arvid is driving the second combine and I am driving my Dad's. The third combine is headed to John Deere in Conrad and that will take dad all day to drive it there. Our wheat yield is reading Zero bushels per acre and that is pretty bad. You can see how small the wheat swaths are due to the terrible drought we are in right now. I have to make sure we get the semi-trucks filled and don't waste any time. I also have to decide which part of the 320-acre field to harvest next. Uncle Chris swathed this field in 80 acres so we can be closer to the semi-trucks to dump our grain. Our grain cart is still waiting on a part so it is at the shop. All things considered, I think I did okay and today went well. There is a lot to think about and watch when you are the boss! The biggest concern is always fire and so paying attention to everything at the same time is critical. I hope you like my video and thank you for watching!

Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am an 18-year-old 4th-generation Montana farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion became a reality.
