Signature Tyer Howard Croston sits down at the vise to add to our "World Championship Winning Flies" series. In this fly tying tutorial Howard walks us through tying his Dark Knight nymph, which is a variation on a black pheasant tail nymph. This variation incorporates a chartreuse collar and red wire ribbing, which gives it a little extra attracting power. Howard said this fly earned its place as a confidence pattern in his box after it caught heavily pressured fish when other flies did not. The darker profile is also good when the water is colored, as it helps the fly stand out with greater contrast. He has fished this fly allover the world, so when he says it's a confidence fly and a fish catching machine, we add it to our box, too.
