Tony Clarke was primarily a songwriter based in Chicago writing for Chess Records artists like Etta James. Given a chance to record as a solo in 1965, Clarke scored a huge hit with, The Entertainer, which peaked at #4 on the Cash Box chart, week ending 5/15/65. No other hits followed and Clarke eventually relocated to Los Angeles in 1966 and dabbled in acting as well as singing but nothing ever really took off. Clarke was killed in a domestic dispute with his estranged wife in 1971 at the age of 31.
