Here I share my thoughts and experience using the Shure KSM32 microphone in my home studio over the last couple of years. I discuss how the standard large diaphragm condenser (LDC) microphone has a 1" diaphragm and the standard small diaphragm condenser (SDC) microphone has a 1/2" diaphragm, while the Shure KSM32 has a less common diaphragm size of 3/4", which some call a medium diaphragm condenser (MDC). Indeed, the sound of this microphone is on middle ground between the sounds of LDCs and SDCs. This means that the mic has neither that classic LDC sound (for lead vocals) nor that classic SDC sound (for acoustic guitars). However, I am quite impressed with the build quality and value for the price. It is quite a stellar percussion mic from the limited experience that I have with it in that domain. The frequency response is quite flat and neutral compared with most condensers, but at the same time it does have a characteristic "Shure sound" that vibes well with the rest of the Shure product line, which may or may not be your cup of tea.
