After a cataract operation the most important instruction to be followed is given by doctor who performs the surgery but the general guidelines that has to be followed after a cataract operation that is most important is the eye need to be cleaned with a disposable a tissue paper by your operating surgeon. One should apply drops as prescribed and as frequently. Usually one drop of the medication is enough 2 or 3 drops need not be applied. Two or three types of drops that are applied, there should be a minimum gap of 10 to 15 minutes between the two drops. All drops must not be applied and the drops has to be spaced is prescribed by your operating surgeon. Another instruction to be followed is the diet if you are a diabetic then diabetes has to be under control. Hypertensive, then hypertension has to be in control and what diet is prescribed this has to be followed the other instructions that we need to follow post cataract surgery is there should not be any head bath. Post surgery water should not directly enter the eye. One can take a body wash. Shaving is allowed after 2 to 3 days after surgery but on should not splash water, the soap can be relived with a wet towel. The person should not sleep on the operated inside either the can sleep straight or he can sleep opposite side of the surgery and eye shield may be applied once the person goes to seep prior to going to sleep to prevent rubbing of the eye. Post cataract surgery one may have irritation, some may have itching in the eye because of the healing process in rarer to avoid this rubbing has to be avoided and the eye should has to be applied. Dark glasses or white glasses that are prescribed has to be used during the day to prevent dust and pollution. One should not touch the eye. One should not rub the eye. One should not play with small children who may hit the eye, either thing is no exercise, especially pranayamas. Pranayama should be avoided 15 days post surgery depending on the surgery. Light exercise like walks may be allowed 3 to 4 days after surgery. But vigorous exercise, strenuous exercise like treadmill can be avoided for atleast a month post surgery. Most important instruction that has to be followed is given by your operating doctor, but most important one is to remember no exercise, drops should be applied as instructed no head bath and normal diet one has to follow.
