Meanwhile, APBEL General Manager John Mencias has told News Five that the problems with shipments have been ongoing for months now and provoked much complaint from the Government to both APBEL and Puma. There were some concerns at times that as PDV-Caribe failed to come through with oil shipments, Belize could run out of regular gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, having already lost premium supply. Any questions about the future of the Petrocaribe Accord as it relates to loan repayments from Belize to Venezuela would be reserved for the Government. Opposition Leader John Briceño weighed in today as well, sounding the death knell for Petrocaribe and demanding an accounting of the hundreds of millions spent on Christmas and Mother’s Day Cheer, tacos and pibil and other assorted niceties. But he also raised another possibility for the outcome of the bilateral talks – Venezuela walking away because of perceived lack of support from Belize.
