Journey to the end of the Trans-Amazonian Highway…

We traveled the final 200+ km of the Trans-Amazonian Highway to reach the town of Lábrea.

The Amazon is suffering heartbreaking wildfire during the dry season, which we tried to track and avoid before setting out.

Unfortunately, they sometimes appear without warning or while you’re outside signal coverage.

In these cases, we studied the oncoming traffic for signs of concern and asked passing drivers for information about what’s happening ahead.

It was heartbreaking to ride among the scorched trees and the other signs of destruction.
