Another full featured systems dive from TNP. This time we'll consider the pros, cons, and fantasies of .50 BMG use. As could be expected I will hammer on the normal stuff here: SAWC, value, frequency of use, and realistic systems integration. Lots of .50 cal shooting with a Barrett M82A1 proceeded this video and it will be shown.
While the cartridge is impressive, an anti-material mission will be hampered by the scarcity and shocking expense of military loads, if you could find them. This is discussed and the focus will be on the proven military use of such rounds. And while some of the following loads are completely legal to have and shoot in your .50, they are hyper expensive unicorns: SLAP, HEIAP, API-T, Raufoss Mk 211, M1022 long-range sniper round, Mk 257, APEI Mk 169 Mod 2, and crazy fun rounds like the M903 headlight.
So most shooter's will be relegated to 660 gr FMJ loads in their probably not-shot-a lot .50 rifle. Many have bought 50s and never shoot them. I have an unusual take on this round btw. Power, range, damage factor, and comparisons with more cost effective rounds (to include .338 Lapua) are shown also. But we'll also discuss the fun and competitive aspect of .50 BMG shooting, a 100% valid reason for running these big boys.
