January 12, 2011, will mark the first anniversary of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, which left hundreds of thousands of people dead and more than a million homeless. Some of the most startling images from the quake were those taken by the news photographers deployed to capture the aftermath of deadly quake and the effort to save those who could be saved. Those photographs capture a moment of horror and sometimes of hope in a country where life was difficult enough before that quake struck - almost a year ago today.
