So what is Kaya Toast? Kaya toast is a traditional Singapore breakfast item from the early 1900s. It is famous Singaporean snack and in Malaysia as well. It can also be served as an afternoon snack usually to kids. This dish was invented by Hainan immigrants to the Malay peninsula. Malaysians and Singaporeans often east Kaya Toast with a cup of hot beverage such as Teh C, Kopi C, Teh O, Kopi O or even Milo peng. This merits the snack's inclusion in many Singapore Kopitiams. Singaporean companies such as Yakun Kaya Toast and Killiney Kopitiam are franchises serve the most popular Singapore kaya toast.
Most people are familiar with breakfast toast. But what is this "Kaya" that is the highlight of this Singaporean breakfast? Kaya is simply coconut jam. Kaya is traditionally made from a topping of sugar, coconut milk, Pandan Leaf and eggs. Kaya is generally served on toast, and also sometimes on crackers. Kaya is spread generously onto 2 slices of toasted bread but that is not all, thick slices of butter cut from SCS Pure Creamery Butter Block will be placed on the spread toast to complete this sandwich. Just like how you cannot eat Hamburgers without a serving of french fries, Kaya Toast is always served with 2 soft boiled eggs. After seasoning the soft-boiled eggs with a little dark soy sauce and white pepper, these eggs also serve as a dipping sauce for the Kaya Toast!
