President Putin challenged the West to a “high-technology duel” to test Russia’s new hypersonic ballistic missile while boasting that his troops were advancing “along the whole line of the front” in Ukraine.
Russia’s leader said he was ready for “negotiations and compromises” with Donald Trump, the incoming US president, over the Ukraine war but he was on bullish form as he held his annual press conference in Moscow.
Amid heightened tension with the US and European states, Putin said that if western experts doubted the capabilities of the Oreshnik missile, used to strike Ukraine last month, a “high-technology duel of the 21st century” could be arranged.
