Have you ever wondered what that tiny propeller is under the plane? Some people think it's an emergency motor for water landings but that's not true. If you ever see it in operation, you'd rather not be on that plane because chances are the aircraft is in deep trouble. It's called a RAT and is only deployed when both engines have failed or the plane has run out of fuel, and even the backup power generators are offline. It starts spinning due to the thrust of the wind, generating just enough power to operate essential equipment to help glide the plane to the nearest runway.
