All is set at the Vatican for the elevation of 21 new cardinals on Saturday. 18 of them are under the age of 80 and would be able to vote in a conclave to choose the next pope. After Saturday's consistory, there will be 243 members of the College of Cardinals. At the moment there are 221 cardinals in the world. Of them, 119 are allowed to vote for the next pope as they are under 80. This means that Pope Francis will have created 121 cardinals, from 66 countries. 55% of the cardinals. And of the ones who can vote, Pope Francis will have created 98 of them, which is 72% of the cardinal electors. This pope compared to other popes has traditionally chosen less of the archbishops who are expected to become cardinals. There are those dioceses, archdioceses, in the world that have traditionally always had a cardinal as the head, and he has instead chosen men from many different places in the world, and often places that have never had a cardinal before.
