This #WomenInMaritimeDay, we honour all the women in our industry, both on board and ashore, and we celebrate their invaluable contributions to maritime.
We are proud to be a part of the movement actively working to battle under-representation and nurture the multiple generations of women in maritime. However, we still have a while to go as an industry.
According to the IMO, women account for only 29% of the overall workforce in the general industry and 20% of the workforce of national maritime authorities in Member States. Additionally, women represent only 2% of the global seafarer workforce.
At CSM, we are uncompromising in our beliefs, and those beliefs include the need for diversity and inclusion. As such, for this year’s theme, ‘Mobilising Networks for Gender Equality’, we would like to use our reach to inspire a new generation of women in maritime by showing you the next generation.
Meet Oriana Quintero, an Engine Cadet on board MV One Hawk, who shared with us her reasons for becoming a seafarer.
