China on Monday rejected what it called "slanderous attacks" about conditions for Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities living in the Xinjiang region, saying they enjoyed freedom of religion and labour rights.
Canadian opposition critic for foreign affairs and Conservative MP Michael Chong, during a virtual press conference in which survivors also spoke, said it was time for Canada to describe the "crimes" against Uyghurs and others "for what they are: a genocide."
British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab on Monday also denounced what he called torture, forced labour and sterilizations that were taking place on an "industrial scale" in the Xinjiang region.
Activists and United Nations (U.N.) human rights experts have said that one million Muslims are detained in camps in the remote western region.
