Hey, it's Ethan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install these Konig XD Pro Diamond Pattern Assisted Tensioning Snow Tire Chains on our 2023 GMC Yukon XL. This tire size is 275/60 20 but make sure you check our fit guide at etrailer to make sure you're getting the right chains for your tire size. These chains are gonna be a great all around set of chains. They're gonna be really good for light snow and light ice. They are a diamond pattern construction which means you get more coverage on your tire.
It's gonna help you a lot with turning and they're a little bit more low profile so you're not gonna feel 'em as much when you're driving as a ladder pattern chain would. The chains themselves are square length. They're pretty low profile square length but they're still gonna help bite into some of that light snow and ice. The chains are made of a manganese type alloy which is going to allow them to last for more seasons. They're gonna be more durable and hold up to rust weather and corrosion than a low-carbon steel would.
As you can see, the chains on the middle are a slightly different color because they are powder coated which not only allows you to protect your hands if you're doing the chain installation and it's actually really cold out. Also, if they do make contact with the rims they're gonna be less damaging. Konig has all these red connection points which makes it really easy to figure out where you're installing things. In addition, there is this assisted tensioning cable. It's not self tensioning but it will help you get some tension into the chains and keep it there while you're driving.
The chains do come two to a set in this durable cloth bag. It has plenty of room for you to put the chains back in when you're done. Inside you'll see that they do include some of these spacers, so in the event that the chains do make contact with your rims if you can put 'em on either side to protect them it's not something that we have to worry about but it's nice that they're included. As far as bags, Konig chains usually do have nicer bags, but if you want to keep these even more safe, you might pick up something like a plastic tote to keep them in just to keep them a little bit more secure and to keep the weather out. Overall, the installation of these chains is pretty straightforward.
Konig does a really good job of labeling everything and where you need to put it. We always recommend that you try it out in your garage first though to make sure that you know what you're doing before you find yourself on the side of the road and you need to know how to do it. But you can check out. We did it right now. To start, we like to lay the chains out flat, just making sure that nothing is caught or tangled up. Especially with this assisted tensioning cable it tends to get wrapped around things 'cause it is so long so make sure that's not wrapped around anything. You'll see that there is a spot in the middle where the tire is gonna go, so make sure that gap is centered up and you want these hoops at the end to be making contact with the, with the tread of the tires, not the hooks on the other end so if they're facing up facing you, they're in the right direction. Now we start the whole process by feeding one side around the back of the tire. I like to do the side that some that doesn't have the assisted tensioning cable again, because it is so long and it does tend to get caught up and just feed it around until you reach the point where you can grab each of these sides of the tire. Feed them up and around the back and make our first connection, feeding them those studs into that catch there. And we drape the rest of the chains around (chains rattling) trying to keep them as even as possible. And then we can make our first connection up front using this loose red link and the red hook just fit it right into there, spread it out again. Then we can come down to the bottom using our assisted tensioning cable. We'll fit it into this catch here like that and you'll hear it click as we pull it back into place. You see that spring expand as well and we'll fit it through one of these hooks and try to get it pretty much directly straight across if we can. Once you have that assisted tension cable where you want it that's pretty much it for the install. Just get the chains onto your passenger side tire as well. Go
