Welcome to our 12 Days of Recipes! At Joy Holiday Family, we love diving into the traditions that bring us together. The popular carol “Twelve Days of Christmas” is actually inspired by the ancient Christian tradition known as Christmastide. Each day of the song holds significance to the time leading up to the Epiphany on January 6th.

The lords of society were considered noble and refined people of their class. Higher society people loved using spices during holiday cooking considering its appeal and expense. So day 10’s recipe honors those spices with an easy, one bowl option for dessert. Mix everything together, pour into a cake pan, and you’ll have a delicious spiced cake in less than an hour!
“Hurry Up” Spice Cake:
-1 3/4 cup cake flour
-1 cup sugar
-1/2 cup softened butter
-2 eggs
-1/2 cup milk
-1/2 tsp salt
-1 3/4 tsp baking powder
-1 tsp vanilla
-1 tsp cinnamon
-1/2 tsp cloves
-Powdered sugar for dusting
-Preheat oven to 350F
-Add cake flour into a bowl
-Add sugar and mix well
-Add softened butter, eggs, milk, salt, baking powder, vanilla, cinnamon, and cloves and mix with a whisk until batter forms, about 2 minutes
-Pour into a greased 9x13 inch pan
-Bake at 350F for 30 mins
-Dust with powdered sugar and serve
