This 8-minute video, presented by Executive Director Lisa J. Plevin of New Jersey Highlands Water Protection and Planning Council, provides an overview of the New Jersey Highlands Council and the importance of protecting its water while comprising 15% of the state’s land; the Highlands region is the source of water for 70% of New Jerseyans. The video describes resources the Highlands Council provides to municipalities to help them manage water such as the $70,000.00 grant West Milford Township, Passaic County received to comprehensively inventory, assess and map over 4,000 catch-basins and 800 outfalls that form its storm sewer system in the 80 square mile municipality for better management of this infrastructure. Or the Comprehensive Green Infrastructure Plans that were prepared last year by the Rutgers Water Resources Group for 24 Highlands municipalities that are in the Raritan River Watershed. And the more recent grants of $50,000.00 to Chester Township to construct green infrastructure projects or the $54,000.00 Hopatcong Borough project to restore a stormwater conveyance to a natural system in Witten Park. Further highlighted is forthcoming guidance on a template for municipalities to use to assess their climate hazards and vulnerability.
