This talk takes place four years after the devastating earthquakes in Christchurch that killed over 180 people. Almost the entire city centre and many suburbs had to be totally demolished. And then Christchurch was hit by massive floods.
SCIRT, the Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team, which is an alliance between owner participants and non-owner participants, and which enlists the services of dozens of subcontractors, was established as a transition from emergency response to recovery and rebuild. It will hand everything back to the asset owners in 2016.
With 300 staff, including 180 12d Model designers, SCIRT has been responsible for all the civil design. This has been managed in the CED, the 12d Central Engineering Database. The CED has provided the one source of truth for all the information required for 12d design.
To speed up all processes, SCIRT developed the Survey As-build system to standardise data input. This allowed easy validation within 12d Model of the Design and As-Built data so that error reports and plots could be automatically produced.
Held in Brisbane on July 27-29 July 2014, the 12d Model International Conference was attended by over 400 people across the three days and nights. Attendees could attend four rooms of technical talks, case studies, networking sessions and "Birds of a Feather" sessions.
