Here I'm talking about fame, in Hollywood and also outside of it – specifically looking at the value of fame. Hollywood has consciously cultivated over-the-top celebration for generations for commercial purposes, but it's also something that feeds into the egos you inevitably find in art.
The social value of fame has been high for a long time - we as a society seem to respect those with fame, but that also seems to be increasing with the rise of the YouTube and social media stars. But people who hunt fame might find that 'success' at fame isn't fulfilling, even if they become famous, because it elevates them to a 'higher' peer group - and the need to compete continues.
