At this year’s Migration Summit, Rise and Syrian Youth Empowerment (SYE) wediscuss how they work together to generate educational and economic opportunities for conflict-affected youth from Syria and Iraq through an innovative and accessible project-based learning experience. Rise, an initiative of Schmidt Futures and Rhodes Trust, is a program that finds brilliant young people in need of opportunity and supports them as they work to serve others.
This session covers how SYE and Rise are partnering to:
- Support an equitable and inherently beneficial application process
- Create value for and strengthen grassroots organizations
- Share knowledge to understand the challenges Syrian and Iraqi youth face and build solutions
- Generate greater pathways for students looking to access educational opportunities globally
- Design an inclusive recruiting approach for tertiary educational institutions to learn from, particularly in the U.S. and Europe
= Ensure that youth are contributing to their local communities, no matter their physical location.
The session featured opportunities to collaborate and generate solutions to the challenges Rise and SYE face, and explore additional opportunities to implement similar models across broader contexts and industries, enabling greater access to funded learning opportunities. Our target audiences were: potential students, higher education institutions, grassroots organizations, entities that can offer remote learning, and funders to collectively:
- Learn about new models for university/talent organization partnerships and how to implement them.
- Learn about new models for youth talent identification and how to develop them.
Generate ideas for innovative collaborations like that of SYE and Rise.
