John 3:16 is one of the most well-known verses in all the Bible. The KJV reads, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
But some claim that "only begotten" is a poor translation, and we should rather think "unique." This video surveys several passages which employ this Greek word μονογενης (monogenes), from the Greek Old Testament, Extra-Biblical Jewish Texts, and finally from the Apostolic Writings. I show that it clearly means "one and only," and in special cases it parallels "firstborn," but always with Yeshua as the Only Son of God, through Whom others (those of us who belong to Him, those He purchased by His blood) also become "children of God."
