Hello, my name is Kacey! And I am a digital analyst at KarimCo. Today I will explain you the distinction between structured and unstructured data.
Unstructured data refers to data that lacks fixed format. Examples of unstructured data include images, audio and video files, e-mails and spreadsheets. This type of data represents an estimated 80% of all new enterprise data.
It is proliferating at a rate 3 times faster then structured data and therefore requires more storage space. It is also more challenging to manage and protect it with legacy solutions.
Structured data, on the other hand, has a clear and consistent format.
Structured data comprises simple types of data, such as numbers, dates and strings. It accounts for an estimated 20% of enterprise data. It requires less storage space and is easier to manage and protect with legacy solutions.
