Enacted by digitalSSM, the project entitled “VARIANT. Documenting New Media Art” presents an online lecture by Prof. Siegfried Zielinski (the European Graduate School). In his lecture, Zielinski focuses on the archeology of the relationship between art and media along with his Variantology project in this field. The lecture consists of six topics that are listed below.
Topics:
1. What do we talk about in terms of encounters with art, given that we are dealing with machines as museum visitors?
2. The originality of a work of art in the age of its infinite (re)producibility is a chimera and a phantasm to which the global art market clings because it wants to protect itself from becoming superfluous.
3. Art through Media is an extravagant journey in a time machine.
4. Variantology and its projection surface: the dynamic network of relations between Art, Sciences, Technologies and its constant historical changes.
5. On the intersection of ethics & aesthetics. The responsibility of the transformers and translators.
