Get ready for one of our most exiting events at The Waltham Forest Summer Music Festival 2024!
This year Waltham Forest Music Service has been working in partnership with the Royal Opera House to bring to life one of Mozart’s most loved operas: The Magic Flute.
This one-of-a-kind event will feature more than 700 primary school children from around Waltham Forest who will perform some of the most beautiful excerpts from the Magic Flute opera.
This fantastic opportunity has been made possible thanks to Music Education Hub funding from Arts Council England and the Royal Opera House’s Create & Sing programme which provides learning resources for schools to introduce children to the magical world of dramatic singing whilst unlocking their imagination and creativity.

This event will be a joyous celebration of the massive benefit and huge impact that music has on children’s education. The production will also feature members of the Little Choir of Joy, Waltham Forest Youth Orchestra, a young Waltham Forest soprano from the ROH Youth Opera Company and ROH baritone Ben Knight as Papageno.
Primary schools performing in the project are:
Chingford C of E; Handsworth; Newport; Parkside; Arbour Trust; Dawlish, Thorpe Hall, Oakhill; Downsell; Our Lady of St George; Emmanuel Community; Mission Grove; Thomas Gamuel; George Tomlinson; Whittingham; Gwyn Jones.
Our children’s production of the Magic Flute will premiere on Thursday 4th July at the Big Penny Social, 1 Priestley Way (off Blackhorse Lane) E17 6AL, Walthamstow. There will be two performances at 2pm and 6pm, each lasting an hour in total.
This project has been created and directed by Italian soprano and choir leader Maya Sapone and produced by Waltham Forest Music Service.
