Four police dogs in Taichung are ready to begin a life of fun and comfort, after retiring on Tuesday. The four had entered service in 2018, with the establishment of the city’s police dog squad. After a vetting process, they have all found a family to live with and live out their golden years.

Back in October, the police department announced four of its police dogs were reaching the end of their 7-year careers, and would be up for adoption after retirement. Prospective applicants were required to have a passion for dogs and go through a vetting process.

In the initial review, we looked at their ages, their conditions and their living environments, as well as if they had experience raising dogs. After that, we visited the homes of the adoptive families in person.

They came to inspect our living quarters. Our house isn’t big, at just 30 ping. But we have a lawn that’s more than 700 ping. It’s a yard where dogs can be happy as can be.

After retirement I really wanted to adopt her. She’s like my daughter and I would’ve really missed her.

When I came to the dog squad, it was the first dog I brought up and trained together with. I’d take it out to do exercise, bathe it, groom it. And we have a lot of memories together when going out on duty.
The four paw patrol officers have taken part in missions such as drug-busting operations, explosive detection and search and rescue operations, helping their human colleagues solve many cases. Now, years of rest and leisure lie before them, as they enjoy their golden years with a new family.
