We found our guide in Las Coloradas and hopped on the boat in between there and Rio Lagartos, the largest town nearby.
With flamingoes, crocodiles, eagles, pelicans, mangroves, and open salt water lagoons, the tour is awesome and worth the drive out of the way. Solid Day Trip.
It's quite simple to find a tour once you leave Rio Lagartos and drive towards Las Coloradas- there will be dozens of people attempting to sell you tours for $1,800 pesos. We asked for an English speaking guide and didn't really get one, but we knew enough to get by and learn about the wildlife.
We visited at the end of July, which happens to be one of the two months NOT to visit if you want to see the colorful, pink pools where they harvest salt.
