america kept secret, thousands of complaints of sexual abuse. but now, after a supreme court ruling, the documents are public for the first time. nearly two-dozen cases involve boy scout troops across new mexico and here in albuquerque. our jill galus has the story. the boy scouts of america was founded on team building, character, and values ... but dating back to the 1940s... these documents show otherwise. complaint after complaint of suspected sexual abuse by scoutmasters and volunteers. "we have remorse and sorry to see something like that happen to anybody." LLOYD LYMAN with the great southwest council says he was just a young boy scout himself when some of these allegations were made and kept secret. in 1982 - a complaint accuses an assistant scoutmaster in albuquerque of sexually molesting an 8- year-old cub scout. the boy's mother described in a letter how the leader pulled down her son's pas ...forced him to touch himself and engaged in intercourse. she also wrote, "my son informs me and i believe him because he wouldn't know people did these things unless they had happened." in a case against another albuquerque leader... a complaint details an overnight camping trip, with accusations of "making advances to a boy"... when the child "finally escaped by choking him severely around the neck." "if they want to come in with those kind of reasons and purposes behind them to do harm or they have their own ulterior motives, i think it's much more difficult for them to do that." "absolutely a zero tolerance policy we work with law enforcement and even in the process of an investigation, we would remove somebody from the circumstances and situation until the investigation is done."
