The HPE ProLiant BL465c Gen 8 (G8) is a blade server supporting 2 x AMD Opteron 6200 or 6300 series CPUs (G34 socket). There are 16 DIMM slots utilizing DDR3 memory architecture. You can configure your BL465c Gen 8 server with two types of RAM: ECC Registered (RDIMM) and Load Reduced (LRDIMM). The max configuration with ECC Registered is 512GB via (16 x 32GB) DDR3 PC3-12800R 1600MHz Server Memory. With LRDIMMs, you can achieve the same max capacity of 512GB. However, you can run at 1866MHz and get a bump in speed so the max installation would be 512GB via (16 x 32GB) DDR3 PC3-14900L 1866MHz Server Memory. There are 4 Memory Channels per Intel processor. The HPE BL465c Gen 8 has two DIMM slots per memory channel and the channels are indeed color coded. White will be the start of the memory channel and black will be the second slot of the channel. The proper configuration for 2 CPUs would be 8 or 16 DIMMs. We will discuss in more depth in this video as well as a nice tutorial on how to actually load the memory inside your ProLiant BL465c Gen 8 server.
